Tony Abeyta: New Works
Upcoming exhibition
The Owings Gallery is honored to present New Works, a solo exhibition of recent paintings by Tony Abeyta, one of the most celebrated Indigenous artists working today.
This new body of work highlights Abeyta’s continued mastery of vibrant color, layered symbolism, and powerful landscapes. While the New Mexico desert continues to inform his visual language, these latest paintings expand beyond the familiar, drawing connections between varied geographies through themes of light, transformation, and spiritual presence.
Abeyta’s work bridges abstraction and representation in ways that feel both timeless and deeply contemporary. His bold compositions and atmospheric textures invite viewers into immersive spaces that explore memory, movement, and the elemental forces shaping the American West.
We invite you to celebrate the opening of New Works with us on August 15th, with an opening reception with the artist from 5 to 7 PM.
New Works marks a significant chapter in Abeyta’s career. These paintings reflect a world in flux, yet remain anchored in themes of resilience, identity, and spiritual connection. Whether depicting mesas, canyons, or the charred remnants of forest, each piece holds a sense of emotional truth and deep reverence for place.
This exhibition offers viewers a chance to engage with art that speaks to both ancestral memory and present-day experience. Abeyta’s storytelling is visual, layered, and rooted in an understanding of change — not as loss, but as transformation.
We invite you to join us on August 15 to celebrate this exceptional new series and to experience the enduring impact of Tony Abeyta’s contribution to contemporary art.
