    Unified, d. 2025, oil on linen, 20 x 16 inches

This exhibition presents a diverse selection of Hagege's recent work, showcasing the breadth of his subject matter and vision. From sweeping vistas and native flora to expressive portraits and sculptural still lifes, each piece reflects a deep reverence for the Southwest and its culture. Unified delicately combines many of the artist's signature motifs, including a Navajo weaving, a pueblo wedding vase, and blooming hollyhocks, iconic in his visual vocabulary.

A hallmark of Hagege's paintings is his rhythmic visual language: clouds often echo the curves of figures, while desert cliffs and adobe walls settle into carefully considered arrangements of shape and shadow. His refined use of color, deeply inspired by nature, captures the quiet drama of the landscape, from amber rock faces to expansive skies. More than a depiction of place, his work fosters an emotional connection to the land, revealing its beauty through light, form, and sensitivity.

The Song at Sunset, d. 2020, oil on linen, 96 x 144 inches

Raised in Los Angeles, Hagege's connection to the desert began early, during childhood trips to visit his grandmother in the California desert. These formative experiences laid the foundation for his lifelong engagement with the region's people, land, and stories. That connection continues to resonate throughout his work, which bridges past and present, realism and abstraction, the celestial and the earthly.
