Cada Familia | Every Family

Every student at Rio Grande School painted a canvas for this exhibition: 156 of them, eight by ten inches each, by artists ranging in age from three years old to the sixth grade. Their subjects are as various as their makers — cherries and puppies, flowers and a World Cup trophy, sundry abstractions, and landscapes not unlike those of the Taos painters who customarily adorn these walls. Among them hang nine larger works, each painted by a single class working together on one canvas. Taken as a whole, the exhibition is a portrait of a school, showing what its children chose to look at this autumn and how each of them chose to render it.
