Counterparts

Alfred Morang painted the Sangre de Cristos in 1944 and Frank Croft painted the same mountains in 2001, and the Grand Canyon that Gunnar Widforss painted in 1925 is the one Philip Enquist drew in charcoal from the South Rim in 2024. Each pair on these walls sets a painter from the first half of the last century beside a painter working now, the two of them before the same mountain, canyon, church or pueblo, fifty to a hundred years apart.
